“Study Abroad” Working Title

Status: Development

Logline: A sheltered Black American student arrives in Madrid certain she has life figured out. The city has other plans.

Director’s Statement: I thought this was a story about studying abroad. It turns out I was writing about certainty. Inspired by my time living in Madrid, this story grew out of watching everything I thought I understood (faith, identity, belonging, even myself) become more complicated. Developed alongside my writing partner, whose relationship with religion has followed a very different path than my own, the film lives in the space between inherited beliefs and lived experience. Ultimately, it's a story about curiosity winning over certainty.
